In Short
If you want to take a deep breath without leaving Hamburg, grab a drink, put on your sunglasses and head to Alsterpark. Located directly on the banks of the Außenalster, this is not just a park, but rather a piece of urban vacation feeling. Whether you want to go jogging, let the dog run around or just people-watch – there’s a spot for everyone here.
Perfect Mix of Nature and City Flair
The Alsterpark is perfect for leisurely strolls or lazy hours on one of the many benches. The view of the water? Postcard material. And in spring, there are beautiful cherry trees in bloom, creating a very special atmosphere. If you fancy some exercise, you’ll find modern outdoor sports equipment and even a few small climbing and balancing challenges for children.

Dogs jump through the grass in the huge dog-walking area, there are open spaces for picnics or frisbee action – and all against the backdrop of beautiful villas that make you want to move straight in. Particularly beautiful: the small bridge with the huge weeping willow – a super romantic spot.
Looking for more parks? How about the Stadtpark or Platz der Republik?

Coffee, Cake & Co. With a View of the Alster
And don’t worry – culinary delights are provided. The AlsterCliff is just a stone’s throw away and offers drinks, snacks and a fantastic view of the water. Perfect for a sundowner after a walk. And for those who are out and about for longer: public toilets are also available, so everything is stress-free.
Tips for Your Visit:
- Best time: Spring, when the cherry trees are in bloom – but sunsets in summer are also a highlight.
- Take along: Picnic blanket and perhaps a small breakfast for the perfect start to the day.
- Extra tip: If you fancy a longer walk – the circular route around the entire Außenalster is approx. 7.4 km long. Perfect for joggers or walkers with stamina.
So: shoes on, playlist on – and off to Alsterpark!
