A Symphony of Water, Light and Music
The water light concert at Planten un Blomen Park is definitely one of the highlights of a summer evening in Hamburg. Every evening from May to the end of September, the large water fountain in the middle of the park is transformed into a magical stage on which light, music and water merge into an impressive symphony. There are shows with musical accompaniment that start at 10 pm (May to August) and 9 pm (in September). During the day, you can also experience the water features without light and music at 4 pm and 6 pm – perfect if you want to take a short break during your walk in the park.
An Experience for Young and Old
This show is really suitable for all age groups – children are fascinated by the high water fountains that move rhythmically to the music, and adults enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The water light concert is usually linked to a story. We thought it was very well done. A little tip: Don’t expect a mega show like in Las Vegas and bear in mind that this is a free event that takes place almost every evening.

The Perfect Preparation: Picnic Blanket, Wine and Snacks
You should definitely pack a blanket for the perfect evening. Add a few snacks and something to drink, and you can have a little picnic. There are large lawns around the small lake with the water fountains, which fill up quickly, so get there early to secure a good spot. When you’re there for the first time, it’s hard to know exactly where to sit. That’s why we’ve drawn up our recommendation for you here. The red spot is great, since you will be sitting right in front in the middle of it. The black one is where we took our pictures from. This is also a good spot, as it is on top of a small hill.
Practical Tips:
- Timing: The shows start punctually at 10 pm (May-August) and 9 pm (September). It’s best to arrive 30-45 minutes beforehand to secure a good spot.
- Seating: Be sure to bring a picnic blanket or cushion – the lawns fill up quickly.
- Picnic: Pack something to eat and drink to make the evening even more comfortable. Glass bottles are not officially allowed, but as long as you are careful there should be no problems.
- Weather: The show takes place outdoors, so check the weather forecast beforehand. If it rains, the mood might be a little dampened after all!
- Parking: If you’re coming by car, it’s best to use the surrounding parking garages, as parking in the immediate area is difficult. However, the best way to reach Planten un Blomen is by public transport, for example via the “Stephansplatz” subway station.
