In Short
We went to the Cinnaversum at Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier – the current hypespot for cinnamon buns and Franzbrötchen. The whole thing is definitely fancy, even if you can only look through a large shop window – there’s no seating. But there are plenty of colorful baked goods and creative flavor combinations. The café is well priced – more expensive than a normal bakery, but still in line with the trend.
Atmospheric First Impression
The ambience is minimalist-chic: a large panoramic window through which cinnamon buns rotate – a real eye-catcher! Through the large shop window, you can admire all the crazy and colorful creations of Franzbrötchen and cinnamon buns. You can’t sit inside, but the sight alone makes you want to take something home with you immediately.
What’s Behind the Concept
Cinnaversum has been represented in the new XXL shopping center in HafenCity, Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, since April 2025. The owners focus on a mixture of classic baking art and creative decoration. With varieties such as pistachio, cookies & cream, chocolate and strawberry, classics are given a new lease of life – sophisticated street food to go, so to speak.
Taste & Impression
We tried the pistachio cinnamon bun (€5.90) – super moist, a clever combination of tender dough, fine nut cream and a subtle cinnamon aroma. It also looked really good: pastel green pistachio filling and perfectly twisted. The taste? Sweet and nutty-harmonious, without being artificial.
The Franzbrötchen really make a statement: various toppings, buttery-fluffy dough, nice and crispy. We had a Franzbrötchen with chocolate and strawberry (€5.90) and one with cookies & cream (€5.90). However – and to be honest – their taste is not quite as convincing as the cinnamon buns.
The price is comparable to other hyped spots, but doesn’t knock our socks off. You pay around €4.90 to €5.90 per pastry, depending on the type and whether you want a cinnamon bun or a Franzbrötchen. The cinnamon buns justify their price tag partly on taste, appearance and the overall experience. The Franzbrötchen are solid, but also interchangeable.
Our Conclusion & Tip
You can definitely take a look at Cinnaversum. The store looks really cool and it’s worth a try. Get yourself a cinnamon bun, you can enjoy them anywhere in HafenCity. We say: the pistachio edition is definitely worth a detour; as for the Franzbrötchen, you’ll have to decide for yourself whether you’re convinced by the hype.
