In Short
Café Gold im Mund opened in June 2025 in the heart of Hamburg’s Karolinenviertel district. It was founded by Franzi and two friends with a lot of passion and the firm intention of bringing really good breakfast to the people. Here you can enjoy all-day brunch, homemade cakes, fine coffee, and matcha in a relaxed atmosphere. Both inside and outside, the café is a place to unwind — and the food? It’s to fall in love with.
A Place to Arrive and Take a Deep Breath
Gold im Mund is located on Karolinenstraße. Anyone who stops here for a coffee or a leisurely breakfast will be greeted by an open, well-thought-out design: light-colored walls, wooden tables, lovely details — everything feels harmonious, almost homely. The interior is chic, but not overly stylish.
It’s also nice to sit outside. Beer benches, plants, sunshine. Especially on warm days, it’s quite busy here, without feeling hectic. The atmosphere is friendly, the crowd is diverse. And the team? Relaxed, attentive, warm. You immediately feel welcome.
The concept of “all-day brunch” runs through the entire menu. Breakfast is not only available until noon, but all day long — with many vegetarian and vegan options, fresh ingredients, and homemade treats.

A Highlight Layer by Layer
The plates arrived and we knew immediately: this is going to be good. Each dish was so beautifully presented that we almost hesitated to touch it.
The onsen eggs on sourdough bread had just the right consistency — tender but not slimy, with a light hollandaise foam that made the whole thing seem light. For us personally, it was a tad too salty, but still within acceptable limits.
The French toast was sweet, but not too sweet, with a hint of lime that added freshness. The yogurt was fluffy, the strawberries were ripe, and the white chocolate crumble was a crunchy addition. If you like sweet brunch items, you’ll be happy here.
The avocado bread was also not your standard bread, but a really good combination of creamy purée, fresh avocado slices, and fruity pomegranate seeds — simple, but sophisticated. The matcha latte with its delicate Earl Grey aroma went just as well with it as the homemade juices, which didn’t taste like they came from a carton, but like real fruit.
Finally, there was cake. And the cheesecake was just right: not too firm, not too airy, with a taste reminiscent of real cooking rather than a baking mix. The brownie absolutely won us over and was the secret star of the brunch – super delicious!
Our Verdict on Gold im Mund
Gold im Mund lives up to its name. The café combines a relaxed breakfast atmosphere with well-thought-out dishes that are fresh, homemade, and prepared with love. The atmosphere is pleasant, the team is friendly, the interior is cozy, and the menu is varied enough that you’ll still discover something new on your third or fourth visit.
We were thrilled and will definitely be back. So if you’re looking for a special brunch spot in Hamburg — with plenty of style, good food, and a genuine feel-good factor — don’t miss Gold im Mund.
