In Short
Sometimes you discover charming, hidden corners in Hamburg that you really want to try out – Café Klein in the Levantehaus is one such place. High up on the gallery of this beautiful historic building is one of the smallest cafés in the city. Despite its location inside the building, the glass roof construction creates a pleasant, almost airy feeling, as if you were sitting outside. Sounds like a perfect little oasis for a relaxing coffee break, doesn’t it? We’ll tell you what our visit was like.
Nice location, Small Café, Great Expectations
The Levantehaus itself is a real gem. Anyone who likes elegant architecture, high-quality boutiques and a stylish atmosphere will definitely be happy here. Café Klein is located on the upper floor, almost a little hidden, and offers a beautiful view of the interior of the building. The furnishings are simple, almost minimalist, but the location still makes it feel special. The atmosphere definitely invites you to linger – unfortunately, the food didn’t quite convince us.

Sweet, Sour, but not Quite Right
The granola bowl itself was fresh and made with high-quality ingredients. However, the ratio of ingredients was not ideal: the mango puree was so dominant that it drowned out everything else. If you like it sweet, you might be happy with it – we would have liked a more balanced mixture.
The avocado bread actually had the potential to be a solid breakfast dish. The avocado was creamy, the bread crispy, the toppings nicely arranged – but the lemon juice was simply too strong. This made the whole thing more sour than aromatic.

We were particularly excited about the pistachio waffle – a fluffy waffle batter, creamy pistachio flavor and vanilla ice cream? Sounded perfect! The waffle itself was really good, but unfortunately the pistachio cream didn’t taste as good as we had expected. What’s more, the chopped pistachios that should come with the waffle were completely missing.
The Drinks are Okay!
Our cappuccino was solid, but also nothing special – a standard coffee like you get in many cafés. The pistachio latte sounded exciting, but the balance between matcha, espresso and pistachio cream was not ideal. The taste was okay, but for the price we had hoped for something more sophisticated.
Conclusion: Nice Atmosphere, Food with Room for Improvement
Café Klein definitely scores with its charming location in the Levantehaus. Anyone looking for a quiet place for a short break will feel right at home here. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t perfect for our taste – not a disaster, but also nothing we would come back for. The prices are on the higher end, which would be okay if the quality was consistently good.
