In Short
We recently visited Café & Bistro Ivy in Hamburg-Altona and immediately felt like having a leisurely breakfast. We were impressed by the modern ambience, the lovingly prepared food, and the pleasant atmosphere. It’s the ideal place to start the day in a relaxed manner.
Atmosphere & Location – a Place to Feel Good in Altona
Café & Bistro Ivy has two locations in Hamburg — one in the city center (Hopfensack 8) and one in Ottensen/Altona (Mottenburger Str. 26). We visited the Altona branch, which is perfect for a quiet breakfast stop before or after a stroll through the city. The interior is tastefully decorated: light-colored tables, wooden details, large windows – overall, a cozy atmosphere that is neither too chic nor over the top.
Since we were there early on a weekday, it was still pleasantly quiet and the food came quite quickly – ideal for a relaxed start to the day.

Taste & Details – How we Experienced it
The granola was beautifully presented with yogurt and fresh fruit — the cinnamon gave it a very wintery flavor, but the fruit added fresh, slightly tart accents. Really harmonious.
The shakshuka with eggplant was a nice change: aromatic tomato sauce, tender eggplant pieces, well-seasoned eggs — everything was balanced and had character.
The pancakes stood out: the batter tasted different than usual – with a slight spiciness, almost wintery and cozy, instead of pure sweetness. Of course, they also looked super pretty – we highly recommend them!
The drinks were also good. The golden milk was very tasty – well spiced and warming. The matcha latte was solid, but it was served with a frother (not quite traditional) and therefore had small crumbs – it didn’t massively interfere with the taste, but it wasn’t ideal. We also found it a bit of a shame that you have to pay extra for milk alternatives here, but that’s still the case in some restaurants.

Recommendation
If you’re in the mood for a cozy breakfast lovingly prepared in a pleasant atmosphere, then Café & Bistro Ivy in Altona is definitely a good choice. Try it for yourself and write about your experience!
