In Short
If you’re in the mood for a really cozy evening with friends — away from the typical bar scene — then you should definitely check out Würfel & Zucker. This gaming café in Hamburg is a paradise for board game fans, curious minds, and anyone who wants to laugh, puzzle, compete, or simply try something new together.
Mountains of Games as far as the Eye can see
As soon as you walk in, you’ll probably notice the huge selection of games: walls, shelves, niches — everything is filled to the brim. Classics such as The Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, and Taboo are lined up alongside exciting new releases that you’ve probably never seen before. Especially cool: there’s a separate shelf just for the latest gaming trends — perfect for anyone who likes to discover new things.
The café is spread over several areas – a large main room, a separate side room, and a cozy basement area. Whether you’re traveling as a couple or with a large group, there’s always a table to suit your needs. Provided you reserve in advance, that is. Without a reservation, you’ll almost never get a seat here – no wonder, since the place is popular and often completely booked up.

Deluxe Advice and Really Nice People
What makes Würfel & Zucker special: You don’t have to be a gaming pro to have fun here. The team is super friendly and knows the games extremely well. You can even get advice — just say what you’re in the mood for (e.g., strategy, party game, for two, cooperative, short or long…) and they’ll bring suitable suggestions right to your table. It’s like having a board game sommelier – and it saves you endless browsing and pondering on the shelf.
There are also regular events and game nights where you can meet new people or try out specific games in groups. Many people also celebrate birthdays here or meet up with their regular gaming group.
Culinary Game Support
Of course, you’ll need a little refreshment while you play. The menu is small but excellent: we had a delicious tomato and mozzarella panini (€9.80), crispy breadsticks with garlic cream (€6.90), and a warming cup of tea (€3.40). There are also cakes, pizza, and small snacks — everything you need to play for a few hours without getting hungry.
