In Short
A café that floats on the water, has an incredibly relaxed atmosphere, and almost makes you feel like you’re on vacation in Hamburg on sunny days? That’s exactly what Entenwerder1 is like. If you fancy coffee with a view of the Elbe, passing boats, and lots of sunshine, this is the place for you. But be warned: it can get pretty busy here on weekends in summer.
Between City and Water – Hamburg at its Most Relaxed
Entenwerder1 is located somewhat away from the typical hustle and bustle of the city center, directly on the Elbe River on a small headland in Rothenburgsort. It takes about 35 minutes by bus from Hamburg Central Station — and that’s exactly what makes it so appealing. As soon as we arrive, everything feels a little slower.
Cozy inside, spacious seating outside — in the sun or in the shade, there’s something for everyone here. Particularly nice: plants everywhere, colorful chairs, small details that give the whole place a playful and welcoming feel. Add to that the panorama — water, passing boats, seagulls in the air. It’s a wonderful place to sit alone, read a book, and just take a deep breath.
Colorful, Relaxed, Warm — The Atmosphere
What immediately strikes you is the relaxed atmosphere. The team is friendly and attentive. You order at the bar, find your favorite spot, and enjoy the view. Especially when the sun is shining, this is one of those places where you forget the time.

There is also seating inside — perfect for cooler days or when the wind picks up. Nevertheless, life takes place outside. It can get crowded in midsummer, so either come early or bring a little patience. It’s worth it.

Hearty, Creamy, Crispy – That’s How it Tastes on the Water
The avocado sandwich was a little work of art. Creamy avocado mousse topped with sautéed mushrooms, fresh herbs, and fruity blueberries went very well together. It was delicious, but we felt like something was missing.
The grilled cheese sandwich was exactly what you would want: golden brown and crispy on the outside, melted cheddar and mozzarella on the inside that stretched when pulled apart. The pickled onions added a pleasant acidity, and the cilantro-jalapeño sauce provided a slight spiciness that was not overwhelming but made you want to take another bite.
For a sweet finish, we had a freshly baked waffle, simply topped with powdered sugar — fluffy, warm, and just right with the cappuccino, which was beautifully creamy. The organic tea with a blooming tea flower was not only mild and pleasant in taste, but also visually appealing in the glass.
The Perfect Spot for Sunny Days in Hamburg
Whether for a relaxed breakfast, a coffee break after a walk, or simply as a retreat with a view of the water, Entenwerder1 is definitely worth a visit. Especially when the sun is shining and the boats are passing by, this place unfolds its very own charm.
If you want to experience Hamburg from a different perspective, don’t miss this floating café hotspot. We’ll be back — maybe with a book and a little more time.
