In Short
Fermented oats, sourdough bread with pumpkin and gingerbread salted caramel cheesecake: Aendre in Hamburg serves dishes unlike almost anything we have seen elsewhere. Everything is entirely plant-based, seasonal and made mostly with organic ingredients. We sampled several of their distinctive creations and were genuinely impressed!
Cozy, Welcoming and Full of Thoughtful Details
Aendre has two locations in Hamburg: a deli at Lehmweg 31A in Hoheluft and a restaurant at Schlüterstraße 86 in the Grindel district. Both locations focus on mindful, creative cuisine made with fresh ingredients and plenty of house-made products.
We visited the deli in Hoheluft. The atmosphere is wonderfully cozy and the staff are incredibly friendly. There is lovely seating indoors as well as outdoors. We particularly love that they even do their own fermenting there. You can also buy many of their house-made products to enjoy at home or order something to take away. The menu changes with the seasons, so there is always something new to discover.

Unusual, Fresh and Absolutely Delicious!
What impressed us most about Aendre were the unexpected combinations. Fermented oats, tempeh salad or sourdough bread with pumpkin might sound unusual at first, but they taste fantastic! Everything was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented and full of interesting flavors. You can really tell how much thought and creativity go into the dishes.
The drinks and sweet treats also won us over. The gingerbread salted caramel cheesecake and pear-cardamom muffin, in particular, were a welcome change from the usual cakes. Overall, the food here feels wonderfully light and healthy without sacrificing any flavor.
Sustainably Minded and Made In-House
We also really like the concept behind Aendre. The focus here is on high-quality, mostly organic ingredients and a mindful approach to food. Rather than relying on conventional vegan substitutes, the team uses natural ingredients, its own fermentation techniques and creative preparation methods. That is exactly what makes the cuisine so interesting and means there is always something new to try.
