In Short
If you’re looking for the perfect mix of sightseeing and sporting challenge, then head to the “Bei der Erholung” viewpoint in Hamburg! Grab your comfortable shoes and get ready for a short but intense climb.
This is How You Get There
Take the U3 underground line to the “Landungsbrücken” stop. From there, head towards Alter Elbtunnel. On the right-hand side, you will see the 76 steps leading up the hill. This staircase is a real test for your leg muscles, but the reward at the end is worth it.
The View
Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the harbor. From here, you can admire the many bridges, the lively harbor promenade and the countless boats and ships on the Elbe. A particular highlight is of course the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, which towers majestically over the city. It is the perfect place to take a few photos and simply enjoy the view.
The Sudpfannen-Fountain
Another highlight at the viewpoint is the Sudpfannen fountain. This fountain is not only a pretty photo motif, but also a historical piece of Hamburg. It was donated by the Hamburg brewery St. Pauli-Brauerei in 1901 and is a reminder of the time when Hamburg was still an important center of the art of brewing.
From the “Bei der Erholung” viewpoint, you can walk directly to the Alter Elbtunnel!
From St. Pauli to the Reeperbahn
While you’re up there, it’s worth making a detour to the famous Reeperbahn, which is just a stone’s throw away. Here you will find numerous bars, restaurants and clubs – perfect for winding down the evening.
If you still feel like a leisurely stroll after climbing the stairs, you can continue in the direction of Landungsbrücken. On the way, you will pass another viewpoint and a beautiful park that invites you to linger.
