In Short
A restaurant visit that literally floats above things: “Dinner in the Sky” in Hamburg is not a normal dinner date, but an experience that takes place somewhere between a rollercoaster ride, fine dining and sightseeing – right in the middle of Hamburg’s Heiligengeistfeld. If you want to combine high altitude and fine dining, this is the place for you.
Floating & Feasting
As soon as you arrive at the Active City Arena in Hamburg, it’s clear that it’s not just about the food, but about the overall experience. The platform is suspended from a gigantic crane and rises around 50 meters above the city. You take a seat at tables for four with rotating chairs – backrest adjustable, panorama included. The ascent is announced by a countdown and party music.
Also nice: you are greeted with a welcome drink – sparkling wine or orange juice, a very relaxed way to arrive. The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff professional and laid-back. And yes, when it gets a little windier, typical of Hamburg, the term “flying buffet” suddenly takes on a whole new meaning – especially for napkins!

Taste, View & Experience
The cuisine scores particularly well with the starter: Light, fresh, creatively combined – a really successful start that makes you want more. Also visually beautifully presented. The main courses were solid, but could have done with a little more refinement or spice – the gnocchi could have really shone if they hadn’t been a little too dry.
The dessert was okay – not spectacular, but nicely presented. Overall, we can say that the food is not Michelin-level, but it’s not a flop either – and above all, it’s only part of the overall experience. Because when you’re toasting with a glass of wine between the sky and the harbor while enjoying the view over Hamburg, the taste on the plate is almost secondary.
Bottom Line
“Dinner in the Sky” in Hamburg is not a classic restaurant – it’s an experience with a memory guarantee that you can still enjoy in Hamburg until 8 June 2025. Perfect for special occasions, courageous gourmets or anyone who likes to keep track of things while eating. If you book here, you get more than just a menu: you get a feeling of floating, freedom and a little thrill. And that is definitely worth the price – at least once in a lifetime.
