In Short
In the middle of Mönckebergstraße, but in a world of its own: the OMEN Café is a hidden favorite place with a great view, cool furnishings and really delicious coffee and pastries.
Hidden Hideaway with Style
OMEN Café is enthroned on the 3rd floor of the historic Hulbe-Haus (built in 1911) at Mönckebergstraße 21 – a magnificent building with a view of St. Peter’s Church and the town hall. Downstairs, the Thomas i Punkt store next door beckons with trendy fashion (including Comme Des Garçons, Carhartt), while upstairs you can browse through stylish coffee-table magazines between designer furniture (including Vitra, Jean Prouvé) – a lively lifestyle concept à la OMEN Café.
Colorful, Retro, Relaxed
Inside, you can expect a colorful mix of retro accents, art installations and various seating niches. The upper floor is particularly hip: colorful, airy and perfect for relaxing. One highlight is the small terrace with a view over the rooftops of Mönckebergstraße all the way to the church – an urban rooftop feeling in the city center.

Taste, Feeling & Small Details
We start with the Iced Matcha Latte: creamy, subtly green and a real pick-me-up – even if the price is a little high in comparison.
The Cascara Soda is fresh and exciting – a sweet and tart soft drink, ideal after shopping.
The two pastries from Heferl Patisserie & Backstube stand out: the stracciatella raspberry tartlet is airy and fruity, while the poppy seed cake impresses with its juicy texture and delicate poppy seed aroma – both a real hit!
The grilled cheese with carrot and tomato jam was super tasty, but almost a little too hearty for 10 o’clock in the morning – and a little heavy to start the day with its sweetness. But the taste and presentation were great – a nice contrast between the warm cheese, sweet jam and crunchy carrot.
Price & Conclusion
Yes, the OMEN Café is not cheap – probably more of a premium location than a cheap coffee break spot. But of course, the architecture, view, furnishings and quality come at a price. But in return, you get an experience far removed from the mainstream – absolutely worth a visit if you’re looking for something special for your shopping break. The baked goods from Heferl were a real highlight! Only the grilled cheese is perhaps better suited to a later breakfast or lunch.
