In Short
Hamburg and pizza – a love that comes in many forms. But when it comes to authentic Neapolitan pizza, there’s no way around Spezzagrano. We’ve heard so many good things that we finally had to go ourselves. Spoiler: It was fantastic! A little bit of Italy in the middle of Hamburg – and we can only recommend it.
A Look Behind the (Pizza) Scenes
We were greeted by a great aroma of fresh dough, tomato sauce and melted cheese as soon as we entered. Through the huge glass windows, we were able to watch the team at work in the open kitchen – from kneading the dough to pushing the pizzas into the impressive stone oven. At over 400 degrees, it ensures that the pizzas are perfectly baked in less than a minute.
The atmosphere? Cozy and lively. This is where Italian charm meets modern Hamburg flair. The staff were super friendly and always had a smile on their faces.
Our Selection at a Glance
Of course, we couldn’t limit ourselves to just one pizza. Here’s what we tried:

- Pizza Diavola – San Marzano tomato sauce, Fior di Latte cheese, spicy salami, olive oil + extra salsiccia (€15 + €3.50)
- Burrata – date tomatoes, basil, Sant’Ilario ham (€17.90)
- Toasted slice of bread – avocado, onions, stracciata, herb salad (€14)
- Aperol Spritz (9,50 €)

Explosion of Flavor on Neapolitan Dough
Let’s get to the most important thing: the food. The Pizza Speciale Tartufo really blew us away. Chunks of potato on a pizza? It may sound strange at first, but combined with the creamy fior di latte, the intense truffle flavor and a hint of Parmesan, it was a hit. The airy, slightly crispy dough made the whole thing even better.
The Diavola pizza was a spicy dream. The San Marzano tomato sauce was fresh and fruity, while the spicy salami and extra salsiccia added just the right kick. A little spicy, a little hearty – just the way we like it.
The starters were also impressive. The burrata was wonderfully creamy and was perfectly complemented by sweet date tomatoes and the slightly salty Sant’Ilario ham. And the toasted bread with avocado and stracciata? A light but filling treat, ideal to start the evening.
Conclusion: A Little More Expensive, but Worth Every Penny
Yes, the prices are high. But when the quality, taste and atmosphere are as good as at Spezzagrano, it’s absolutely justified. Anyone looking for authentic Neapolitan pizza should definitely book a table here.
