In Short
A place where conscious eating is really enjoyable — without any sugar. In the heart of downtown Hamburg, just a few steps away from City Hall, there is a small café that piqued our curiosity: Sugarfree Hamburg. It is the first café in the city to be completely dedicated to the low-carb and keto concept — and it does so with style. The menu promises enjoyment without sugar and flour, but with plenty of creativity and full flavor.
A Place With a Relaxed Energy
Instead of serving dry mountains of salad or boring substitute products, Sugarfree Hamburg shows how versatile and delicious a sugar-free diet can be. Each dish comes with nutritional information – ideal if you want to take a closer look at your everyday diet. Table sugar? Not here. Instead, alternatives are used that are also suitable for diabetics. And if you’re expecting wheat flour, you’ll be surprised: coconut flour, almond flour, and other clever ingredients take center stage here. The cuisine is not only low carb, but also gluten-free and largely vegetarian — a rarity in Hamburg’s restaurant scene.

Sweet Temptation Without Regret
The waffles were definitely the highlight for us. Lightly crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside — and not a gram of sugar. The combination of dark chocolate and fruity berry sauce is really impressive. On top is a creamy sauce that is surprisingly light. Anyone who thinks sugar-free desserts are bland will definitely be convinced otherwise here. We would come back for these waffles anytime.

The sugar-free option for two is perfect for sampling the wide range of cakes, tartlets, and cupcakes. Everything is homemade, beautifully presented, and — despite being sugar-free — incredibly flavorful. The variety of flavors piques your curiosity, and the textures are diverse, ranging from fluffy to creamy.
Hearty and Anything but Boring
The keto burger was a hit: juicy beef meets creamy basil cream, fresh avocado slices, marinated onions, and crisp vegetables. The vegetable buns are an interesting, fluffy alternative to classic rolls — a little unusual in consistency, but fitting for the concept. The cucumber salad served with it was refreshing and light, just right as a side dish.

The Shirataki noodles were a bit of a challenge at first in terms of consistency — slightly slimy, a little al dente. But combined with spinach, creamy soft cheese, tomatoes, and garlic oil, the dish develops a pleasant depth. It’s definitely not for everyone, but those who are open to new textures will be rewarded.
The burrata bread scores points for its creaminess and freshness: tomatoes, burrata, crisp lettuce, and a pesto with caramelized walnuts on grainy keto bread combine to create a harmonious, satisfying combination. Ideal if you want something light that still really satisfies.
And the Drinks?
The chai latte had a well-rounded flavor, nicely spiced and not too sweet. The matcha latte had a solid flavor, but could have been frothier — there was still a little room for improvement there. The iced teas — especially the hibiscus and ginger-mint — were well balanced: fresh, slightly tart, and not overpowering.
Conclusion: Enjoyment with a Concept
Sugarfree Hamburg is a real insider tip for anyone who wants to eat healthily without sacrificing enjoyment. The dishes are creative, lovingly prepared, and prove that you can eat really well even without sugar. We were particularly impressed by the variety — there’s something for everyone here, whether you’re on a diet or just want to try something new. A small café with big potential — we’ll definitely be back.
