Every year, an enchanting Christmas village unfolds right in front of the imposing town hall, with lovingly designed wooden stalls, nostalgic flair, and genuine handicrafts. This market is one of the most traditional in Hamburg — and it shows: pewter figures, hand-carved nativity scenes, toys, and regional specialties make the market particularly charming. The absolute highlight is the “flying Santa Claus,” who soars over the Rathausmarkt three times a day (4:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m.) – a spectacle for young and old alike!
