Between Darkness and Design: The Ambience
Inside, you’re welcomed by a dark, almost club-like atmosphere that immediately stands out. Low lighting, lots of style, the whole space feels intentionally minimal yet thoughtfully designed. It’s one of those places that truly comes alive at night.
The real highlight, though, is the outdoor area: slightly elevated, it gives the whole venue a special touch. Whether open-air or covered, it’s a comfortable place to sit even with Hamburg’s unpredictable weather. Especially in summer, it’s a highly sought-after spot for long evenings with friends.

The concept revolves heavily around sharing, perfect for trying a variety of dishes instead of committing to just one. The menu offers a modern take on Asian cuisine, featuring plenty of vegan options and some genuinely exciting flavor combinations.
What we Tried:
- Organic tofu with soy dressing, sesame, herbs, and chili oil – €8.50
- Shrimp dumplings with a citrusy sauce and a subtle kick of heat – €14.90
- Buddha noodles with mushroom broth, fresh wheat noodles, and cashews – €18.50
- Spicy kaffir “wings” made from breaded mushrooms – €9.90
- Vegan dessert with coconut, mango, and passion fruit – €6.50
- Soft serve ice cream with sesame – €5.50

A Flavor Explosion With a Slight Downside in Price
What immediately stands out is that the dishes are not only beautifully presented, but also packed with flavor. The Buddha Noodles, in particular, completely won us over. The creamy, slightly nutty sauce paired with the mushrooms and thick noodles felt perfectly balanced. Every component just worked.
The mushroom “wings” were another pleasant surprise. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, topped with a fresh, citrusy dressing that delivered exactly the kind of balance you’d want. The acidity of the dressing may have been a touch overpowering at times, occasionally masking the flavor of the mushrooms themselves, but they were still delicious, and we’d absolutely order them again.
The drinks are every bit as impressive as the food: creative, well-balanced, and, like the dishes, definitely on the pricier side. The same goes for the overall experience. You’re clearly paying for the concept, the quality, and the location.
Perfect for Long Evenings Full of Small Highlights
BATU Noodle Society isn’t the kind of place for a quick dinner, it’s made for evenings that are meant to linger. You order a few dishes here, try something there, order another round, and simply enjoy the atmosphere. The food delivers, the ambience even more so, you just have to be prepared that it’s not going to be a cheap night out.
