In Short
Right in the heart of Hamburg, you can currently immerse yourself in the world of Cleopatra — in a way that’s far more modern than you might expect from a traditional exhibition. Instead of quiet museum halls, you’ll find massive projections, virtual reality, holograms, and interactive experiences that bring the history of Ancient Egypt to life in a surprisingly vivid way.
Between Industrial Charm and the Ancient World
From the outside, the venue seems fairly unassuming at first. Surrounded by warehouses and industrial surroundings, you might even wonder if you’ve come to the right place. But once inside, the atmosphere changes completely. Massive projections, holograms, and digital experience rooms bring Ancient Egypt to Hamburg in a surprisingly modern way. Rather than relying on traditional museum displays, the exhibition focuses on an immersive experience that allows you to truly step into Cleopatra’s world.
Cleopatra’s Story Comes to Life
Instead of relying on dry information panels, the story of Egypt’s last queen is told through modern technology. One of the highlights is the large 360-degree room with towering projections. Here, you experience Alexandria, the legendary Library of Alexandria, Cleopatra’s alliance with Julius Caesar, and the decisive Battle of Actium almost as if you were watching a film.
The combination of light, music, and animations also makes the exhibition feel far more modern and engaging than many traditional historical exhibitions.
The Highlight: The VR Experience
We especially enjoyed the two VR experiences. Included with the ticket is a large VR area where you can move around while learning even more about Cleopatra’s life and history. For us, this was definitely one of the highlights of the exhibition.
At the end of the exhibition, there’s a second VR experience. Wearing VR glasses, you dive into the world of sunken Alexandria and set out in search of Cleopatra’s lost tomb. It’s an exciting addition that makes the visit feel even more memorable.

Original Artifacts and Interactive Experiences
Alongside the digital experiences, the exhibition also features original artifacts. Small statues, vessels, and historical documents complement the modern presentations quite well. We also enjoyed the interactive mirrors, which show what hairstyles, jewelry, and makeup looked like in Ancient Egypt. Another standout is the large-scale replica of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, which is definitely hard to forget.
Is the Exhibition Worth Visiting?
Definitely — especially if you enjoy immersive exhibitions or are looking for a museum experience that feels a little different. While some of the content can be slightly repetitive in places, we found the exhibition genuinely engaging, visually impressive, and educational at the same time. The VR experience and the large projection rooms are what truly make the visit stand out.
