Located directly on the Nikolaifleet, with a great atmosphere and delicious food, “BUDDELS Gasthaus und Weinbar” has convinced us. Whether for lunch or dinner, the restaurant offers high-quality and thoughtful dishes. Especially if you want to go out for a “nice” meal, but still want a relaxed atmosphere, BUDDELS is a great choice.
Welcome to BUDDELS in Hamburg!
Right next to our favorite crêpe restaurant, Ti Breizh, you’ll find the beautiful BUDDELS. The restaurant is run by a super friendly team. Already with the interior, you notice how much love has been put into this restaurant. It is all designed in a country house style. You enter the restaurant through a large door and with a few steps you are in a large room with beautiful chandeliers, great wooden tables, own BUDDELS wine bottles as decoration and a beautiful old ceiling. The highlight is the view! Through the large windows, you have a terrific view of the Nikolaifleet. If you are lucky and get a table at the window, it invites you to dream, especially on sunny days.
Tip: If you can’t get enough of the view, take a short walk down the narrow alley next to the restaurant on the floating platform.
Lunch and Dinner Offer
We were there at lunchtime, and we have to say in advance: We can only evaluate the lunch menu here. This is of course simpler and cheaper than the evening menu. In the evening hours, the BUDDELS is also very worthwhile! There are delicious and high-quality dishes that change constantly. So it’s worth checking out the restaurant’s website beforehand. By the way, you can do that right here!
Huge Selection of Great Drinks
But now back to our visit. Here’s what we ordered to drink:
- ChariTea Green Himalaya (3.50 €)
- Litfassbrause Hopfenlemonade (4 €)
One thing about the drinks that was amazing: With ordering the Litfassbrause, 50% of the proceeds go to support “Stand up against racism” in Hamburg. That makes the drink all the more enjoyable. But it was not only socially good, it also tasted delicious and was served nicely.
As befits a wine bar, you will also find a huge selection of wines at BUDDELS. Here, really everyone will find what they are looking for.
Our Food is Here!
For dinner, we had:
- Alsatian tarte flambée with crème fraîche, bacon, red onion and leek (15 €)
- Baked potato with sour cream and salad (11 €) + mushrooms (6 €)
Both arrived at our table within 5-10 minutes. As you can see from the photos, both looked really great. The tarte flambée was cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of toppings. Very delicious in taste.
The baked potato was also great. It was hot on the inside and had the cool sour cream on the outside. The salad that was served with it was also delicious. I was especially won over by the combination of the somewhat tart dressing of the salad, the sour cream and the potato. In addition, the fig wedges were a small highlight on the plate.
Of Course Not Without Dessert
Finally, we had to have something sweet. We were actually looking forward to the affogato al caffè, but when ordered it, we were told that the coffee machine was currently broken. A bit of a disappointment, but we still found what we were looking for: We opted for the plum gruel with cinnamon cream (6 €). Personally, the cream was a bit too cinnamony for me, but Adrian liked the dessert very much. Especially since the plum jelly was warm, it harmonized super with the cinnamon cream.
Verdict
We can only recommend BUDDELS. The atmosphere, the nice service and the delicious food went together. Especially if you want to go out for a “nicer” meal, but still want a relaxed atmosphere, this is exactly the right restaurant.
