Arrival and First Impressions
The Theater am Großmarkt is not easy to find, as it is not in the immediate vicinity of a subway station. However, once you have found it (by cab or train and a few minutes’ walk), the magic begins. The entrance area leads you through an atmospheric theater pavilion, where you can get in the mood for the adventure ahead.
Culinary Variety in the Theater Pavilion
Before you start, you can enjoy a variety of food and drinks in the pavilion. From chips, nuggets and pizza to burgers, muffins and donuts, there is something for everyone. The drinks menu also leaves nothing to be desired: various cocktails, beers, soft drinks and, of course, water are available.
Particularly interesting is the butterbeer, known from the Harry Potter films. Although it looks great, it tastes very sweet and caramelly – and for a hefty €9.50. As we all know, tastes differ, but you can always try it.

Souvenirs
Drinks in glass bottles may not be taken into the theater hall. However, there are deposit cups available for €5, which are decorated with one of the flags of the four Hogwarts houses. You can choose your favorite house and keep the cup as a souvenir. A tip for savers: refill your cup with water in the toilet, this will save you a lot of money compared to the expensive prices in the theater.
Ambience and Photo Spots
The anteroom of the theater hall is a real eye-catcher. Glittering bulbs hang from the ceiling everywhere, the walls are lovingly decorated, and numerous photo spots invite you to take souvenir photos. A great deal of attention has been paid to detail to create the right atmosphere for visitors.
The Theater Hall and the Performance
The actual theater hall is pleasantly small, which makes for an intimate atmosphere. We sat in the 13th row, quite in the middle, and had a great view of the stage. However, the visibility should also be good from other seats.
The play itself is fantastically staged. Although it is not a musical but a play, there are many magical surprises. However, the actors speak quite quickly, which could be a challenge for visitors who do not speak perfect German.
Practical Tips:
- How to get there: Allow enough time to find the theater, as it is somewhat hidden.
- Culinary: The theater pavilion has everything your heart desires – but the prices are high.
- Photo spots: Use the numerous photo spots in the vestibule for beautiful souvenir photos.
- Seats: All seats offer a good view, but seats in the center are especially recommended.
- Language skills: If you don’t speak perfect German, it can be a little difficult to follow the fast-paced dialog.
- Duration: The play lasts a total of 3 hours and 40 minutes, including a break.
