In Short
Right in the heart of the Sternschanze district, a small but fine place has established itself that satisfies the hunger for street food: The Window. Not only does it serve juicy burgers and delicious drinks, it also has an ambience that perfectly matches the hip Schanzen vibe. Sounds exciting? Then read on!
Urban Charm Meets Street Food
If you stroll through Sternschanze, you shouldn’t walk past The Window. Graffiti, posters and colorful murals characterize the area – and The Window fits seamlessly into this creative neighborhood. Originally launched as a pop-up store, this small store has now taken up permanent residence in a former Portuguese restaurant. It looks almost inconspicuous from the outside, but this is what gives the place its special charm. You order directly at the window and your food is handed to you right there – practical and a bit like on the street, but with that certain something.
Indoors, Outdoors and Always in the Thick of it
The ambience at The Window may not be the fanciest, but that’s exactly what makes it so appealing. It’s not about expensive decor or perfect interiors – it’s about good food and a relaxed atmosphere. The seats, both inside and outside, are simple, but on a sunny day, the lively street scene more than makes up for it. The staff are friendly and will fulfill your every wish – even if they don’t necessarily bathe in smiles. All in all, the overall package is just what you would expect from a real Schanzen spot.

Burgers, Chicken and More
Let’s talk about the main players: the Smash Burger! The Shroom Burger immediately won us over. Juicy, full of flavor and with a thick portion of sauce – almost too much, if you ask us. A little more salt wouldn’t have hurt either, but hey, that’s complaining on a high level. If you like it classic, you’ll love the Icon Double Smash. Double the meat, double the taste – it’s exactly what you’d expect from a really good smash burger. The Korean Fried Chicken also scored highly across the board. The crispy chicken pieces come in three different marinades, offering everything your heart desires from sweet to spicy.
Our Conclusion: A Must for Street Food Fans
All in all, our visit to The Window was a complete success. The combination of delicious food, relaxed atmosphere and the special Schanzen flair makes this spot a real highlight. So next time you’re in the area, you should definitely stop by – we can only recommend it!
