In Short
Right in the pulsating heart of Hamburg, directly on the Reeperbahn, a new hotspot for hotpot has opened its doors: Hou Tang Hotpot. This restaurant brings authentic Chinese cuisine to Hamburg and promises a very special culinary experience.
Atmosphere and Ambience: Tradition Meets Modernity
As soon as you enter the Hou Tang Hotpot, you are greeted by a modern yet traditional interior. The stylish furnishings with warm wooden elements and subtle lighting create an inviting atmosphere. Particularly practical: each large table has a basket with a lid for jackets and bags to prevent them from absorbing the smell of the restaurant – after all, cooking takes place at every table here.
The restaurant extends over two floors:
- First floor: Ideal for larger groups, with spacious tables and the option of booking private rooms.
- Upper floor: Cozy tables for two with a view of the lively Reeperbahn.
A particular highlight is the digital ordering system: you can make your selection and order directly via a QR code on the table. Due to the high demand, it is advisable to book a table in advance, as spontaneous visits are often associated with waiting times.
Choice of Dishes: Variety and Individuality
At Hou Tang Hotpot, you can customize your hotpot experience to suit your personal preferences. There are different pot variants to choose from: a whole pot, a split pot or a three-piece pot. For the broths, we opted for a non-spicy and a spicy version – and be careful: the spicy broth really packs a punch!
Our Selection of Ingredients:
- Freshly sliced rib eye (€19.90)
- Round platter with three different types of meat (€16.50)

Culinary Experience: Taste Explosion in the Hotpot
The pot and the ingredients arrive at your table fairly quickly and you’re ready to go. If you have any questions about the cooking time, you can always ask the waiter. The quality of the ingredients was great: the rib eye was tender and juicy, while the spicy beef impressed us with its pleasant heat. The mushroom and vegetable selection complemented the meat perfectly and made for a well-balanced meal. In addition, the udon noodles absorb the delicious taste of the broth when you add them to the pot. Of course, you can also make your evening completely vegetarian – it’s entirely up to you!
Drinks and Desserts: Creative Highlights
The drinks menu surprises with creative options. We tried the Bambi Fragrance Jasmine Milk Tea (€6.90) and the homemade iced jasmine lemonade (€6.80). The milk tea in particular was very tasty and had a cute detail in the form of a cream topping with a little panda on top.
Finally, we tried the tofu pudding (€6.80), which was also decorated with a panda face. Another cute detail: the pudding wobbled every time we nudged it which rounded off our evening perfectly.
A Must for Hotpot Lovers in Hamburg
Hou Tang Hotpot enriches the Hamburg gastronomy scene with authentic Chinese cuisine and a well thought-out concept. The option to customize the hotpot – whether vegetarian or with meat – as well as the harmonious ambience make this restaurant an absolute must for all lovers of Asian cuisine.
