In Short
At Dao Dao in Hamburg’s Neustadt district, everything revolves around fast, healthy, and above all creative food with an Asian twist. The shop brings color to your hands with its handmade summer rolls, bowls, and soups — all in the best street food style. Whether for your lunch break, on the go, or for your next meeting, here you can enjoy fresh cuisine made with heart and a good dose of experimentation.
Small, Charming, and Quite Popular
Dao Dao is not a place for long dinner evenings – but that’s exactly what makes it so charming. The small restaurant is located on Wexstraße, in the middle of the lively business district of Neustadt. Inside, it’s colorful and uncomplicated: a bit like a street food stall, a bit like a modern Asian deli. The summer rolls smile at you from the counter, neatly lined up, and the aroma from the pho station in the background quickly makes it clear that the cooking here is done with passion. In summer, you can grab a seat outside, but this is generally more of a takeaway place. You can tell by how many people pop in at lunchtime, grab their order, and disappear again, just as satisfied. And those who stay are greeted warmly – the team is relaxed, helpful, and friendly.

Rolls That Rock – and Bowls Packed With Flavor
The summer rolls are undoubtedly the star of the shop. Each bite is a little mosaic of flavors — sometimes sweet from mango, sometimes savory from pulled mushroom, sometimes crisp and fresh with tofu and vegetables. The rice paper wrapper stays pleasantly soft without being too sticky, and the fillings are creative and well-seasoned. There are many different dips, but we absolutely loved the yogurt-mint sauce.
The bowls and pho are also pleasantly surprising. The pumpkin bowl is colorful, filling, but not heavy — just right for cold days when you don’t want to feel sluggish after eating. The broth of the vegan pho is rich, the shiitake mushrooms add umami, and the tofu soaks it all up nicely.
Our Conclusion
Dao Dao shows what fast food can look like today: fresh, colorful, healthy — and above all, delicious. If you want something different from the usual sandwich for your lunch break, you’ll be very happy here. The selection is large enough that you can try everything without getting bored. And with the loving preparation and friendly staff, you’ll feel welcome right away. Our tip: order several rolls at once and try new combinations next time — it’s worth it!
