Doris Diner – A Place that Promises more than it Delivers?

At Doris Diner, it feels as if someone has built a time machine back to the 80s and forgotten to change the filter. When you enter, you are greeted by a cool ambience, but unfortunately also the smell of grease. The food was okay, but not quite our cup of tea. For us, the price-performance ratio is not right here. Maybe we just visited on a bad day – so you better see for yourself.

Ambience: Old School Cool

Everything at Doris Diner is retro, from neon lights to leather seats. It’s as if you’ve landed on a movie set, where a Queen song could be blaring from the jukebox at any moment. The diner somehow manages to make you feel nostalgic for a time you may not have even experienced. Cool? Absolutely. But that greasy smell is a faithful companion to your dining experience – whether you like it or not.

The Menu: From Burgers to Burritos

Doris offers a journey through American cuisine. The selection is huge: burgers and fries, milkshakes, Mexican specials, salads, sandwiches and wraps. We opted for the following on this day:

• BBQ burger with twisters – burger made from minced beef with braised onions, bacon and BBQ sauce (€12.90)
• Club Sandwich – smoked turkey breast, bacon, lettuce and tomato (€11.50)
• Iced Chocolate – iced chocolate with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream (€5.20)
• Vanilla milkshake (€5.50)

Taste: A Bumpy Road Trip

This is where it gets tricky. The anticipation was great, the result somewhat disappointing. The BBQ burger was okay, the sauce tasted very sweet and the quality of the meat left a lot to be desired. The Twister Fries were very greasy, but crispy. The club sandwich unfortunately tasted very dry, especially the turkey breast was anything but juicy.

Drinks: A Ray of Hope

Not all was lost. The drinks actually scored points. The Iced Chocolate was good – cool, chocolaty, just what you need after a greasy meal. The vanilla milkshake? Pretty sweet, but in a good way.

Conclusion: Better to Admire from the Outside

Doris Diner did not convince us, on the contrary it was unfortunately quite disappointing all in all. The food was very greasy and not particularly tasty. The ambience was quite cool, but for us, it didn’t make up for the quality and taste of the food. Maybe we visited on a bad day – but we probably won’t be back.
