Mezzogiorno – Price-Performance Ratio Under the Microscope

On our visit to Mezzogiorno, the experience was mixed. The staff was friendly, but the food was disappointing. Our macaroni was too hard, the sauce was average, and the meat was tough. The king prawns, however, were well cooked. Although it presents itself as a chic restaurant, the quality and prices don’t quite match up for us. Perhaps when we were there, they had a bad day, so it’s best to try Mezzogiorno in Hamburg for yourself.

Mezzogiorno: An Average Experience

When you enter Mezzogiorno in Hamburg, you will receive a friendly welcome in a pleasant atmosphere. The staff is nice and courteous, but the culinary experience remains rather mediocre. But let’s start from the beginning. That early evening, we decided to order:

• Lillet Wildberry (10.50 €)
• Hugo (10.50 €)
• Still Water (6 €)
  
• King prawns (26.50 €)
• Macaroni alla nonna (17.50 €)
• Crème brûlée (10 €)

Taste Experience and Food Quality

Our evening began with a small starter of bread and olives, which we enjoyed.
For one of the main courses, however, the taste and quality did not convince us: The pasta was quite hard, the sauce for the macaroni was nothing exceptional and the meat was a little tough. Only the king prawns were a delight, perfectly prepared and delicious.
We finished with a crème brûlée, which tasted good but didn’t seem homemade.

Value for Money

The price tag here is quite high. With a Lillet Wildberry or Hugo for 10.50 € each, the drinks were expensive. But the price-performance ratio continued with the food: 26.50 € for king prawns and 17.50 € for the macaroni alla nonna seemed excessive, especially for the quality, quantity and taste of the food.
The location in Rotherbaum certainly plays a role here, but for us, it didn’t justify the prices.

Our Résumé

All in all, the food at Mezzogiorno in Hamburg is fine. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met and the price-performance ratio in particular really disappointed us. It is therefore difficult to recommend the restaurant, but perhaps we went there on a bad day. It’s best to see for yourself!
