In Short

Attention coffee lovers! We have a huge recommendation for you. Learn all about coffee roasting, different brewing methods and taste at Nord Coast Coffee Roastery. We were there for breakfast and can only recommend it. The drinks and food are really delicious! You can even buy the coffee roasted in the Roastery which is perfect as a small souvenir from your vacation in Hamburg.

Where do I Find Nord Coast Coffee Roastery?

The café has three branches in Hamburg. We visited Deichstraße 9 and can highly recommend the place. The location is directly on the Nikolaifleet and thus offers a beautiful view of the water. The other branches are located at Isestraße 74 and Eppendorfer Weg 171.

Tip: If there are only two of you, try to get a seat by the window. There you have a beautiful view of the water and the historic buildings of Hamburg.

From the outside, the café looks relatively unimpressive and gray. On the small terrace in front of the entrance door are a few seats. When we arrived, we were already told that there will be a little waiting time. But since we really wanted to sit inside by the window, we also accepted a little more waiting time. Nevertheless, we had our desired seat after about 10 minutes. From the inside, the restaurant is not at all inconspicuous. Passing a coffee roasting machine and the counter with delicious cakes and the freshly roasted coffee for sale, we headed to our table by the window. Rather, it’s a large window seat where you can sit. The interior and design of the café is super nice. A spiral staircase leads to the upper area, which is decorated with a large leather couch and great industrial details.

We recommend reserving a table, because it can get quite crowded, especially on weekends. However, the café also has space for larger groups and will gladly arrange tables for you. In general, the staff in this café is also super nice and accommodating.

Barista with a lot of Experience

From our seat we could watch the barista closely. We saw him preparing a special coffee for a group from Mexico and wow! We were really impressed. He himself is from Venezuela and has been working as a barista for over 10 years. For us, he also prepared a beautiful café latte. You can see the preparation on our Instagram and TikTok account, feel free to stop by! The barista gave us great insights into his work and was very calm and talkative despite a full house.

Our Drinks

To drink we ordered:

  • Café Latte (4.30 €)
  • Green Tea “Morgenduft” (4 €)

I must say directly: The green tea was so good that I had to ask if you can buy it there, too. Unfortunately, this was not the case. However, I could find out where the tea came from – they buy it from a company in Hamburg called “Teespeicher Hamburg”. Really super tasty and perfectly prepared. The tea looks nice in the glass container, but it is hard to pour it into the cup as the glass gets very hot.
The cafe was fabulous as well. Not only did it look incredibly beautiful, but it tasted aromatic and hearty.

Watching Coffee Roasting

After our drinks arrived, I wanted to take a closer look at the roasting process of the coffee beans. You can do that quite easily at the Nord Coast Coffee Roastery. Directly at the entrance is a large machine, which is operated by an employee throughout. In the meantime, the coffee is smelled to see if it is already roasted and every now and then some beans are poured in or finished coffee is taken out. You can also watch this in our video on Instagram or TikTok – we found it super exciting!

Tip: You can also buy the coffee from Nord Coast Coffee Roastery on site and online. It’s a great souvenir from your vacation in Hamburg.
And by the way: With every kilo of coffee sold, the restaurant donates 0.50 € to social projects in the respective countries of origin.

Let’s Move on to our Dishes

The menu is not huge, however it offers a good selection for every taste. We ate the following that morning:

  • Poached organic eggs on smashed avocado & peas with babyleaf salad, citrus herb cream & sourdough bread (11.90 €)
  • Waffle with lime mascarpone cream, fruit and maple syrup (12 €)

The dishes also looked great! As you can see in the pictures, there is a lot of emphasis on presentation in the dishes. The avocado and egg bread had beautiful flowers on it and blobs of the citrus and herb cream were spread around the edges. Taste-wise, it was great. Unlike what we were used to with avocado breads, this one had a slight spicy note that added a very special touch to the dish. Really worth a recommendation. For the sweet ones among you, we tried the waffle. This one also looked top notch and was super flavorful. Not too much cream, fruit or maple syrup. A great sweet breakfast dish!

All in all, we had a great stay, will definitely be back and recommend you visit Nord Coast Coffee Roastery!

We also tried avocado breads at these cafes: Café Melt and Mit Herz & Zucker. Check it out!
