Watching planes take off while enjoying a drink is exactly what makes the Sky Bar at the Airport Plaza Hotel north of Hamburg so special. It may be a little outside the city, but the trip up is especially worth it around sunset.
Atmosphere & Location: Relaxed Above the Clouds
Sky Bar is located on the 9th floor of the stylish Airport Plaza Hotel in Norderstedt, right next to Hamburg Airport. The hotel design combines modern architecture with a touch of 60s charm, an eye-catcher without any frills. The bar is currently still more of an insider tip and usually not overcrowded, mainly hotel guests, but everyone is welcome. The atmosphere is rather quiet, with an urban flair and huge windows that cover almost the entire wall.
Flight View & Evening Atmosphere: Magic in Orange
What particularly impressed us: In the evening, when the sun goes down, the sky turns a warm orange and yellow, in combination with planes taking off, the effect is almost magical. The large windows provide a clear view, whether on the terrace or inside at the bar.

Taste & Look
We had a fruity Lillet Wildberry, which tasted very delicious and fresh, and as a contrast a Pornstar Martini, elegant, creamy, with a certain drop of Prosecco on the side. The Nojito surprised us with its minty freshness and light sweetness, just right for a thirst quencher and without alcohol.
The cheese platter had different types of cheese, fresh grapes, sweet jam and crusty bread, all nicely arranged and very fresh, just as you would wish. The combination of slightly salty cheeses and the fruity garnish was a perfect match. We think the price of €13.50 is fair.
Summary: Perspectives Under the Open Sky
We found it really nice, not just because of the ambience and the view, but because the mix of quiet bar and the hustle and bustle of flying creates something special. The drinks and snacks were delicious and of high quality, everything seemed fresh and made with love. We were particularly impressed by the sunset view of planes taking off. The bar is outside the city center, but that’s what makes it so nice, no tourist hustle and bustle, just relaxed enjoyment.
